Rob Cheyne, Chief Executive Officer
As CEO, Rob sets the vision for the company and manages the executive team and runs the Instructor-led training practice. Rob has cultivated a broad range of skills and experience during his 17 years in the information technology field. He has significant expertise in business process and e-Commerce systems, systems integration, software development and information security. He has developed and taught information security training classes to thousands of students at some of the largest corporations in the world.
Rob has worked in the information security industry since 1998, beginning with Internet Security Advantages (ISA). During his time at ISA, Rob led a team that deployed a full-scale Public Key Infrastructure at a leading state health care organization.
After ISA, Rob was one of the founding employees of @stake, a pioneer in information security consulting. During his tenure at @stake, Rob wore many hats and embraced a wide set of skills and responsibilities. He helped develop application security assessment methodologies that are still in use today and led @stake’s Application Security Center of Excellence for two years. He led secure architecture and design reviews, secure code reviews, application penetration tests and a range of specialized security audits for Fortune 500 companies.
Rob is the author of LC4, a version of the award-winning L0phtCrack password auditing software and he worked on @stake’s SmartRisk Analyzer team, which was eventually spun off as a company called Veracode. @stake was acquired by Symantec Corporation in October 2004.
Rob holds a BA in Computer Information Systems from Bentley University.
Paul Hinkle, Chief Technical Officer
As CTO, Paul is responsible for security research, course design and course development. Paul is an information security professional with 14 years experience in application development and information security. Paul brings a passion and talent for communicating his security expertise to employees across all levels of an organization.
Prior to Safelight, Paul joined Symantec as part of the @stake acquisition. In the role of principal security instructor, he helped build education offerings in secure application development and management of the secure development lifecycle and infrastructure security. Paul has partnered with leading clients in the financial industry and in government and has delivered training in information security concepts to more than 5,000 IT professionals.
Prior to @stake, Paul developed his training skills at WebMethods, a leading web services infrastructure company. He also worked as a consultant for Inventa and a software systems designer for NetResponse, where he gained significant expertise in all phases of the software development lifecycle.
Paul holds a B.A. degree in Biology from The Johns Hopkins University.
Michael Maziarz, Chief Operating Officer
As COO, Mike leads sales, marketing, finance and operations for Safelight Security Advisors. Mike brings 17 years of technology and management skills to the team with experience spanning all phases of software development and marketing.
Mike most recently worked as a director of marketing at Novell where he was responsible for competitive intelligence, market research and global product launch management. Mike began his career at Computer Sciences Corporation where he spent six years consulting in financial services, retail and healthcare. After CSC Consulting, he held positions with Logistics.com (now Manhattan Associates) and Collaborative Consulting where he was a senior project manager based in their Boston office.
Mike holds an M.B.A. degree from Babson and a B.A. degree in Economics from Stonehill College.
Brian Pavicic, Practice Director, Western Region
As Practice Director for the Western Region, Brian leads the firm’s client service and business development activities in the western United States.
In addition to his unwavering client focus and advocacy skills, Brian brings over two decades of high technology sales, business development and customer service skills to the team. Over the past decade he has focused solely on supporting the success of clients in the field of information security, holding key roles with security service providers @stake Inc., Symantec and Veracode. During this time he’s amassed experience across a wide spectrum of information security offerings, including commercial products, professional services, managed services, and SaaS-based offerings. Brian also possesses substantial experience supporting software security assurance initiatives within large commercial software manufacturers and enterprise development shops.
Brian holds a B.A. degree in Business Administration from Indiana University.
